fedora 16 How to stop Tracker in KDE

Good day all, I use KDE on my fedora, and I have noticed this new service called Tracker that keeps running every time I log in. I wanted to stop it as I already have strigi for KDE which does exactly the same thing, I think Tracker is more for gnome anyway.

The files responsible for starting Tracker when I log in are in...

/etc/xdg/autostart

tracker-miner-flickr.desktop
tracker-miner-fs.desktop
tracker-store.desktop

In these files is a line like this...

OnlyShowIn=GNOME;KDE;XFCE;

just take out the KDE like so...

OnlyShowIn=GNOME;XFCE;

Now Tracker should only start in gnome and xfce, so you can imagine what you need to do if you dont want it to start in xfce eether.

Now the trouble is, your edits will be undone when these files are next updated, so what I'v done is put these files into the ~/.config/autostart folder

Files in this folder override the ones in /etc/xdg/autostart, then you have to go into the kde settings and in "Startup and Shutdown" you will see them ticked to run on startup, just untick them and they wont start anymore.

This might not be the 100% correct way of doing this but its what I've done and it works.

A new screencast

I thought I'd put up a new screencast today... Screencast over there-->

This is my KDE 4.7.0 desktop and I thought I'd show off my little program I'm writing at the moment.
It's a buddylist type thing so I can add my friends to it and interact with them, I'm writing it in python using PyQt4 and so far its great. using QGraphicsView and QGraphicsScene allows me to have various animations in it, like when a user logs on, and in my little chat window.
Anyway I'll post a bit more about that in the future

Enjoy :)

I been approved for the Fedora Docs group, and I've started writing drafts of the KDE Desktop User Guide for Fedora.

There's already a desktop user guide but it's gnome orientated, plus on the KDE Sig's page on the wiki they ask for help writing one so I thought hey why not get involved.
I'll keep in touch how things go

Joined the FedoraProject

Well, I haven't blogged for a while so here goes...

I've used Fedora for a long long time now and I really wanted to be a bit more involved in it somehow, join the community so to speak, So I went to the FedoraProject website and signed up!

Your greeted with a list of groups you can join, so I first applied to join Fedora-UK group with the intention of getting my foot in the door and asking others in the group what sort of things they do and what I could help out with. Eventually I went into the #fedora-uk irc chat room and someone suggested that the bug zappers group always need help, so I applied to join that group too.

I'm yet to be accepted but I'll keep you posted on how it goes in the near future, should be fun!
